Fluegel Alumni Center

Custom Insulated Glass for Fluegel Alumni Center’s Facade

“Don’t give up the ship.” Glass Enterprises was proud to be a part of the newly constructed Fluegel Alumni Center to support our men and women at the US Naval Academy.

When the US Naval Academy set out to establish its new Fluegel Alumni Center in Annapolis, MD, Glass Enterprises was selected as the glass fabricator. The center, built by Coakley & Williams Construction and designed by architect Perkins Eastman, was destined to become the headquarters for the US Naval Academy Alumni Association.

The Academy aimed to expand its capacity to serve larger groups, enhancing its alumni service and community outreach efforts. As the first visual point of contact for visitors, the building’s facade held a particular significance. It needed to be more than just aesthetically pleasing. It needed to be durable, energy-efficient, and a product of American craftsmanship.

Glass Enterprises manufactured custom Solarban 70 insulated glass for the facade. Solarban 70 glass was specifically chosen due to its high levels of daylighting that create a vibrant, inviting atmosphere. It effectively blocks solar heat, ensuring that the building stays cool during the sweltering summer months. This balance between aesthetic appeal and energy efficiency made it the ideal choice for the Fluegel Alumni Center.
