Smothers Elementary School, located in Washington, D.C., prides itself on being “a beacon of hope” for many of the families that live below the poverty line “East of the River.” Originally completed in the 1930s, it was in dire need of a full modernization.
The architect (DLR group) and the Chiaramonte Construction Company were tasked with completing the building’s 22,000 square foot expansion and bringing it up to DCPS educational specifications before the start of the 2022-2023 school year. The project’s glazier, PCC Architectural Wall Solutions, came to Glass Enterprises with a big ask: Could we provide five thousand square feet of high quality, high performance insulated glass in less than two weeks?
Our team members were happy to help. They knew that with PCC’s tight schedule, implementing our project management and capacity planning teams would be instrumental to completing the project on budget and on time.
In August of 2022, the Smothers Elementary School was completed and ready for the students to return for the first day of school. Glass Enterprises is proud to have helped ensure Smothers Elementary students started the school year on time —— and in the safe and modernized environment they deserve.
